Overview
This article explains how to perform asset inspections using the CAMS Mobile App. It includes how to locate assets, fill out inspection fields, use form widgets, and submit completed inspections.
For a video overview, see the CAMS Mobile App Quickstart Walkthrough.
For Inspectors
This article outlines the full workflow for conducting asset inspections using the CAMS Mobile App. All inspection tasks and related features described here are available to inspectors. If a field or option is not visible to you, it may have been restricted or disabled by your Admin team.
Selecting an Asset
To begin an inspection, navigate through the hierarchy until you reach the asset list. This list displays all assets within the currently selected level.
-
Search – Use the search icon at the top-right to find an asset by name or ID.
-
Filter – Tap the filter icon above the search to refine the visible assets by criteria such as area, partition, or status.
-
Tap on the asset from the list to open its inspection screen.
Note: If assets have not yet been downloaded to your device, a warning will prompt you to download them before proceeding.
For more details on how to navigate to and select assets, see: Working with Asset Hierarchies.
Filling Out Inspection Fields
Each inspection screen contains one or more collapsible sections. These may include basic asset details, condition ratings, notes, or photos.
-
Fields are grouped by section and may include required inputs.
-
Expand sections by tapping the section name.
-
The top section is always visible; additional fields are hidden under a "More" section, which can be expanded by tapping it.
Tip: Your administrator configures which fields are visible in which section.
To understand more about the structure of the inspection form, see: Inspection Screen Layout and Functionality.
Using Input Widgets
Each field in the form is presented as a widget suited to its data type:
-
Text Field – For short comments or labels
-
Dropdown – Tap to select from a list of values
-
Toggle Switch – Used for yes/no fields
-
Horizontal Stepper – Tap left/right to assign a number value
-
Risk Rating – Choose a predefined level of risk or condition
Note: Date Picker widgets are not currently supported and will be available in a future release.
For a full breakdown of available widgets, see: Inspection Widgets Guide.
Adding New Assets (if not listed)
If the asset you need isn’t listed:
-
Tap the plus (+) icon in the top-right corner of the asset list.
-
Use the hierarchy to filter or search for a new asset.
-
Tap the plus icon next to the asset name to add it to the location.
-
The asset will now appear in the list and can be selected for inspection.
For a step-by-step on asset additions during inspections, see: Adding Assets During Inspection.
Capturing Photos
Photos can be captured using the camera icon located in the top-right corner of the inspection screen. You can take and upload multiple photos using this icon.
Note: The ability to categorise attachments (e.g. image, document, defect photos) is not yet available in mobile. Multiple attachment categories are planned for a future release.
For more information on capturing and managing inspection photos, see: Capturing and Managing Photos in CAMS.
Completing and Submitting the Inspection
Once you've completed the required fields:
-
Return to the primary hierarchy level.
-
Tap the Complete button (usually shown at the bottom of the page).
-
This commits the data and will sync automatically when the device is online.
Note: Fields marked as required must be filled before submission.
To learn more about inspection submission, see: Submitting and Syncing Inspections.
For Admins
Admins are responsible for configuring the fields, forms, and widgets that inspectors use during inspections. This includes determining which inputs appear in the inspection forms, what is marked as required, and how different sections and widgets behave in the CAMS Mobile App.
For guidance on setting up these configurations, see: Mobile Configuration Overview.
