Overview
This step in the mobile configuration process allows Admins only to design how inspection fields are displayed and interacted with in the CAMS Mobile App. Widgets make it easier for inspectors to enter data in a consistent, user-friendly format, while layout tools help structure the overall mobile form.
This configuration is completed in the web configuration view. The mobile app reflects this setup, applying appropriate controls such as dropdowns, validation logic, and field visibility based on your design.
For Inspectors
This feature is not available to Inspectors. Your Admin team manages how your mobile inspection form looks and works to ensure consistency and ease of use in the field.
For Admins
Mobile Inspection Widgets Configuration consists of two main areas:
1. Positioning Widgets
Use positioning widgets to structure how fields are arranged on the mobile inspection screen. You can group related fields together and configure display behaviour based on context and device type.
Available Positioning Widget Types:
-
Row Section – Arranges fields in a horizontal layout, useful for larger screens such as tablets or laptops.
-
Column Section – Organises fields vertically, optimised for narrow mobile screens.
-
Expandable Section – A collapsible grouping that is hidden by default on mobile and can be expanded by the inspector. Ideal for grouping non-critical or advanced fields such as additional asset details or defect metadata.
-
Tab Section – Allows grouping of fields under separate tabs to reduce vertical scrolling and simplify navigation in long forms.
Note on the "More" section: This is a built-in layout behaviour (not a widget) where the first section of the inspection form is always displayed to the inspector. Additional sections can be placed under the "More" section, which is collapsed by default on mobile to save space. Admins can define which fields are placed in this area to prioritise essential vs. secondary data entry.
2. Inspection Widgets
Each field can be assigned a specific inspection widget, which defines how the user inputs data during inspections. This ensures data entry is intuitive, standardised, and suitable for the field.
Available Inspection Widget Types:
-
TextField – A basic free-text input for open-ended responses or comments.
-
Location – Captures a geographic or spatial reference related to the inspection.
-
Condition Indicator – A visual indicator used for assessing asset condition, typically using icons or colour scales.
-
Risk Factor – Allows users to score or select risk levels associated with the inspected item.
-
Horizontal Picker – A scrollable horizontal selector, useful for rating scales or predefined value ranges.
-
Horizontal Stepper – Enables step-wise input through increment/decrement controls.
-
Dropdown – Presents a list of predefined options from which the inspector can select one value.
Note: Barcode support is planned for a future release and is not currently supported on the mobile app.
To configure an inspection widget:
-
Select the field you want to assign a widget to (e.g. Comments, Condition Rating).
-
Choose from the list of available widget types.
-
Save your configuration.
This flexibility allows each client to design an inspection screen tailored to their data and workflows.
Reminder: The mobile app will apply widget behaviour and validations (e.g. dropdown limits, input types) based on your web configuration.
Note: The final design may look different across clients depending on how their organisation structures its mobile forms.
